06 Software measures suppliers' performance
Measuring methodology developed in collaboration with Nyenrode University
Amstelveen, 6 augustus 2003 - 06 Software is measuring the performance of its suppliers, both manufacturers and distributors. 06 Software is thereby striving not only to improve the performance of the individual suppliers, but also to optimise the entire supply chain, thus enabling the company to serve its customers better. The measuring method used by 06 Software has been developed in collaboration with Nyenrode University. The suppliers achieving the best performance will qualify for an award which 06 Software will be presenting annually. The first awards will be handed out on 28 October 2003.
The research into the measuring methodology was carried out by René Kuijer and Guido van den Belt under the supervision of Dr. V. Venugopal of Nyenrode University. A supply chain strategy was developed in consultation with the management of 06 Software and the critical success factors for the supply chain were identified. Clear performance indicators were then developed for these success factors, and a measuring system was created with which 06 Software can assess performance within the supply chain. The end result is a score card for the supply chain and for the participants in the chain. This score card forms the basis for strategic improvements within the supply chain. By optimising the supply chain in this way, the indirect channel can increase the added value. 06 Software can thus clearly distinguish itself from suppliers who - because of competition - are increasingly selling direct.
Eddy Gans, managing director of 06 Software, says: "Just as navigation is essential for sailors, we too must be able to plot where exactly we are. Only then can we set a good course and do business successfully. Our measuring methodology provides the information which can serve as a compass for the supply channel. We also need input from our suppliers, because only with their involvement can we improve our entire chain."
The measurements across the entire supply chain are providing greater insight for 06 Software. This means that the various participants in the supply chain can be brought into line more effectively, so that they can all concentrate on the same success factors. The researchers expect this to lead to better collaboration in the area of information provision and logistics. The measuring system is also a valuable tool in selecting distributors and manufacturers. The measurement results are also used to specify levels of performance. Amongst other things, this allows a distinction to be made between preferred suppliers and second source suppliers.
